My life is filled with hustle and bustle. Sometimes, more bustle and hustle. So, with the amount of work that I do, the classes that I have to go to, I’m constantly on the go. I do make sure that I allocate some time for some TV, some me time and quality time with my friends and family but at some point, everything can become such a blur. I am all about bettering myself every single day and with that, I would want to better my life and make time for more things that I feel would bring a nice change to my overall surroundings and feels.

So, here are the 5 things I want to make more time for :

Islam is such a huge part of my life and for the past few years, I’ve changed so much in terms of my belief and my Deen. I used to pray very seldomly and now I make sure that I pray 5 times a day. I used to leave the Quran on my shelf to collect dusts and now, I make sure I read the Quran at least twice a week. Obviously, there are always room for improvement in our lives and you should always try to improve in every single aspect. So, now, I’m trying to make time to read more beneficial books, listen to more beneficial speeches, attend more classes and wear better clothes.

Clothing is such a controversial topic in this world and regardless of what people think and say, I really want to strive towards dressing like a true Muslimah. So, now, I’ve been trying to wear looser fitting clothes more often. I don’t wear them every single day but hopefully, with more practice, I’ll be able to cover up more and more each day. It’s all about taking baby steps because I don’t want to rush things then allow it to backfire.

I’ve been buying more Islamic books. I’ve downloaded the Muslim Central Audio app so I can listen to more speeches by Mufti Menk, Yasmin Mogahed, Haleh Banani and more. With the app, you can look at the talks that a lot of our Islamic speakers do from all around the world, download it on your phone and listen to it anytime you want, online or offline.

I am a true worrier. Not a worrier but a warrior. Even if I’m just laying in bed, I always have a million things running through my head. And, a lot of times, I really wish I can just shut my brain off for a few hours especially when I have a lot of things going on and I would be trying to do everything at once. So, I’m trying to relax more, take more deeper breaths and chill. Whenever I think I’m starting to over-think, I would stay away from the internet, stay away from anything that would make me want to do more thinking and just watch some TV or take a shower. Simple things that could make a big difference to my thought process.

There are a lot of things that make me unhappy with myself. I’m not talking about superficial things like my face or my body. I’m talking about things from within. I feel like I am such a negative person to begin with so whenever there is negativity in the air, it really gets to me. I try my best to distant myself from negative people and unnecessary drama but sometimes, it’s just inevitable. So, what I need to do with myself is start to ignore. I need to learn to ignore. If you follow me on Twitter, you would know that I am quite the outspoken person and I say things all the time. And, I feel like I need to listen more than I speak. The more you listen, the more you learn. The more you learn, the better you’ll become. I need to clear off the negativity magnet in my chest and shut things off once in a while.

When I was in high school, I learned Japanese. I was really good at the subject but I was never properly fluent. Now, I’ve forgotten 98% of what I learned. It’s actually really bad. I want to start learning another language again because I see people learning French, Italian, Spanish and it makes me a bit jealous that they can do that. I haven’t been looking for classes yet because I don’t know if I really want to do it but when I do decide to jump the gun and sign up for a class, I’ll definitely tell you.

When I decided to take Accounting as my major, I was actually thinking of how good it would be for me to be able to do the accounts of my own company or at least be able to interpret the accounts of the company. There are so many cases where companies get conned by their own accountants and it’s scary that anyone would do anything like that. I’ve had a few of my own “businesses” before. I used to make and sell cakes, jewelry and so many other things. I’ve been off the entrepreneurship radar for a couple of years and I think it’s time that I get back on that bandwagon and bust my butt off. I don’t know what I’m going to do, when I’m going to do it but eventually, I’ll do something.

So, those are my 5 things I want to make time for. What are the things YOU want to make time for? Tell me down below and maybe we can talk about it!

Talk again soon,
Hani Lutfi
