Metrocity is a new township at Matang and still in the works. However, there are a few buildings which are already open for sale or rent so there have been a few shops popping up here and there in the area. Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa is one of them.

I’ve heard of Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa before, it’s just one of those things you just hear about no matter what. Or you think you’re heard of it before but you actually haven’t.

My Mom is familiar to the Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa branches in East Malaysia so she was very surprised and excited about them opening one in Kuching. As for me, Nasi Lemak is Nasi Lemak. How Antarabangsa (International) can it be?

So, here’s how it works. You walk into a shop and you’ll see a variety of dishes to go with your rice. What you do is, you ask for your rice then choose the dishes you want and the person will get them for you. Eggs, peanuts, cucumber and sambal are plain Nasi Lemak. You can get the eggs removed if you don’t like eggs. Then, you can choose to have daging masak kicap, ayam masak merah, begedil, ayam rendang and more.

You pay before you eat. That’s the rule. Once you get your Nasi Lemak, go to the counter, order your drinks, take your number and pay.

Here’s Nasi Lemak with ayam masak merah.

Here’s Nasi Lemak with ayam rendang.

Here’s Nasi Lemak (no egg) with sambal sotong, daging and the sauce of the ayam rendang.

My Nasi Lemak was good, the fragrant was subtle. The ayam rendang was so fragrant and delicious. The only thing that puts me off about the Nasi Lemak is the portion. I think it’s too small. Obviously, it was sufficient for me so it filled me up but if you have a big appetite, this Nasi Lemak is not for you. Especially with the price, I don’t think it’s worth the extra rice.

There a ton of restaurants and stalls that can satisfy your Nasi Lemak cravings but to dedicate an entire restaurant to Nasi Lemak, I think that’s making Nasi Lemak pretty over-rated if you ask me. There’s nothing revolutionary about this Nasi Lemak either so I really don’t get hype.

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa serves other dishes like the Sarawak Laksa, Fried Noodles and more.
