Being a flight away from the centre of Malaysia, Kuching is a stranger to celebrities and famous artists. We don’t have many of them in Kuching so we don’t see many of them as well. However, to commemorate the end of 2015, ERA fm decided to hold the Konsert ERA Sayang Sarawak 2015 at Padang Merdeka, Kuching on December 12th. I was so lucky to have been invited and given a media pass by ERA fm to attend the press conference, meet and greet and hang out at the VIP section of the concert.
WARNING : THIS POST IS PHOTO HEAVY
THE PRESS CONFERENCE
The press conference was held at Dewan Muhibbah, Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suite Kuching who is one of the proud sponsors of the entire Konsert ERA Sayang Sarawak event.
I was fortunate to be in a room with the great line-up of artists and musicians, ready to perform for their Kuchingite fans.
Among those who attended the press conference were our local Sarawakian artists, Nanasheme, Mal Imran, Nadhar and Ir Radzi, West Malaysian artists like Altimet, Lawa Nie Geng, Wani Kayrie and Indonesian artists, Deasy Natalina and Afgan.
We all know how much of a heart throb Afgan is and how girls go crazy over the guy. I am not a fan of Afgan but I would not deny that he is definitely easy on the eyes and I was lucky to be seated behind him. Like I said, I’m not a fan of the guy but I did take sneaky photos to send to my friends who are fans of him just to poke some fun at them. When they found out that I did not take any photos with him, I got scolded because of the millions of girls who would kill to be in my position and would kill for a photo with him, and yet I let the “photo opportunity” slip just like that.
Sadly, Akim & The Majistret and Stacy weren’t there because they insisted on giving their voices, mind and body some rest before showtime. I am a huge fan of Akim & The Majistret because they’re such huge talents so I was very disappointed.
THE MEET & GREET
After the press conference, fans started coming in to take their seats to meet and greet their favourite artists. The people of ERA fm did a great job at keeping the meet and greet very civil and calm because we all know how crazy meet and greets can be.
The concert began at 8PM but I arrived at 7.30PM to take my seat at the VIP section where we had chairs to sit on and food to munch on. However, as soon as the show started, I decided to stand right in front of the stage instead because I wanted to be closer up to the show.
The show was hosted by our ERAfm Sarawak DJs, Chopie, Fir, Osha, Syazwani, Afick and Michelle, and JoHaRa, Johan, Haniff and Ray.
To warm up the show, Lawa Nie Geng opened with their song, Jom Ke Pasar Malam then proceeded to their songs with Deasy Natalina, which were Aduh Aduh Sayang and Masalahmu.
I’ve never heard of Lawa Nie Geng before, let alone watched them perform and I have to say, I was utterly impressed with how much energy they brought to the stage. I really feel like they were the perfect people to warm things up and get people excited for the show.
After their performance, everyone came out to surprise Deasy Natalina with a bouquet of roses and a cake because it was her birthday. Then, the ERAfm Sarawak DJs coordinated a little contest where they chose people from the audience to participate and win some cool ERAfm prizes.
After that, it was Nadhar’s turn to perform his single called Parah. Nadhar is a new and upcoming singer from Sarawak, under CQ Music.
Then, Ir Radzi came out to sing Sempurna Waktu, his single from the TV3 drama, Teman Lelaki Upahan. For Sempurna Waktu, he invited his sister to perform with him. After Sempurna Waktu, he performed Maafkan Aku.
Wani Kayrie came up right after Ir Radzi to perform her single, Jangan Jangan and a cover of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s song called Bang Bang. With the trio’s song, Wani sang Jessie J’s part and I think the song really unleashed her true talent because she had so much energy and we all know how difficult it is to out do Jessie J. She sang all Jessie J’s high notes with so much power and perfection.
Mal Imran performed his single, Cinta Sukar Ditafsirkan and a duet with Nadhar for a cover of Lay Me Down, the song by Sam Smith and John Legend.
Altimet took the stage with his song, Syukur and his latest collaboration with Tomok called Aku Tahu and one of his hits, Kalau Aku Kaya. Altimet is one of my favourite Malaysian rappers and I was very excited to see him in action. He really took control of the stage and he is really really good at what he does.
Nanasheme went next with her second single, Hantu Atau Buaya and her latest single, Boleh Blah. The petite Sarawakian singer had a lot of energy, she ran down the stage, to the crowd and took pictures with everyone. Even off stage at the VIP tent that I spoke about, she took some time to go to the crowd and take pictures with everyone.
Right after, JoHaRa came out to choose two people from the audience to play a game called Spontan ERA. It is where the two players can only ask a question, reply with a question, the question cannot be repeated and no stalling is allowed. If any of the four rules are broken, the player immediately loses. The game went on really hilariously, I couldn’t stop myself from laughing my butt off. It was too funny, my stomach hurt from all the cry-laughing.
After a performance from Black and Stacy, Akim & the Majistret came up with an enormous amount of energy.
They had a technical error which delayed their performance in a way but while the crew dealed with the problem, they took the time to talk to the fans, take selfies, crack some jokes and gave out some prizes with JoHaRa. Akim & The Majistret performed their chart-topping singles, Potret, Mewangi and Obses.
Before Akim & The Majistret went up, the ERAfm Sarawak DJs came out to hold another contest where two more people had to battle out to Akim & The Majistret’s song, Potret to win a special prize. The winner won an iPhone 6, which was crazy to me. Maybe I should’ve volunteered for that contest, sigh.
Then it was time for a lucky draw. Three Rockzone ticket numbers were drawn from the till box and those three people had to compete to win the prize. What is the prize, you ask? A motorcycle from Tay Motors.
Now, for the final performance that everyone in the crowd was waiting for, it was finally Afgan’s turn to perform. The girls in the crowd went WILD and I was laughing my butt off. All of a sudden, everyone went closer to the stage and I actually had to fight for the perfect spot to watch him perform. He performed his new single, Knock Me Out and some of his older songs like Jodoh Pasti Bertemu, Bukan Cinta Biasa and his duet with Rossa, Kamu Yang Ku Tunggu. However, Rossa couldn’t make it so Wani Kayrie took her place.
The concert was amazing. I have only been to two music events in my life so far and this one is the third and I think it was an amazing music event. The line-up was amazing, everyone was so talented. The crowd was so energetic, it was the perfect location. And yeah, I couldn’t say more.
I will be posting a video of the concert on my Youtube channel very very soon so please go to Youtube channel and subscribe here.
Talk again soon,
