YEAR IN MUSIC 2015 : MY MOST PLAYED ON SPOTIFY

Spotify is my favourite music app, ever. I remember scrolling through the best music on iTunes before downloading them (illegally) on my computer and it was such a pain in the ass. Nobody likes downloading song by song then transferring it to any of their devices. Well, at least I don’t. Spotify is the perfect music  app because you can listen to all the music you would like for free, or RM14.90 per month. Of course, with stuck-up singers like Taylor Swift who thinks she needs to be paid for every single thing, there are albums and artists you can’t find on Spotify because, like I said, stuck-up. Apple made their own version of Spotify (such a copy cat, as usual) called Apple Music so I guess you can use that too.

Anyway, I saw that you can look up your Top 5 Most Played Artists & Songs on your Spotify account so that was exactly what I did and I thought I should share it with you.

1. JUSTIN BIEBER – WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

Here’s someone I did not expect to make it to the top of MY list. I remember seeing a tweet saying, “Who knew by the end of 2015, we would all be Beliebers?”. HAHAH I can’t deny that I have been listening to a lot of his music when his new album, Purpose, first came out but I don’t open Spotify that often these days so I am quite surprised. However, I am pretty sure that these numbers went up when he was about to unlock the Acoustic version of What Do You Mean. I remember that there was a streaming target to reach on Spotify and I helped by playing the song on repeat, with my laptop on mute. Clever marketing strategy from the boy who started on Youtube, Taylor Swift can learn a thing or two.

2. CHVRCHES – THE MOTHER WE SHARE

This came by no surprise to me. This year, I’ve fallen in love with Chvrches and there’s nothing I could say about them. I LOVE their sound and their music, the girl has an amazing voice and I am just waiting for a Chvrches concert in Malaysia. I remember Chvrches being on a line-up at Urbanscapes last year and I couldn’t go because I had classes.

3. alt-J – BREEZEBLOCKS

A shoutout to my favourite band, ever. alt-J has an unconventional sound and I love it, not because it’s unconventional, but because it’s SO GOOD. I would kill to go to Coachella and listen to them play in real life. I remember there was a video of two drunk kids, imitating both alt-J’s music and singing, it was hilarious and smart at the same time.

4. BANKS – BEGGING FOR THREAD

I love Banks, too much. She has a really soothing voice and all her songs are amazing. She’s almost like Lorde, to me and I obviously prefer Lorde over Banks but yeah. I have to say, I did not expect this song in particular to be in this list because, my favourite song from her is actually Goddess.

5. SHINee – VIEW

Finally, I should be ashamed if these boys didn’t make it in my Top 5. SHINee is my favourite k-pop boy group and the only k-pop group that I actually follow. I pre-order all their albums (when I have the money) and I am waiting for the day that they would actually perform in Malaysia for their own SHINee World concert. It is so annoying to me that EXO has already announced a concert in Malaysia but SHINee, a group of almost 8 years in the k-pop industry, hasn’t. I am going to Korea on the 8th anniversary of the group so I am hoping to catch them live at a anniversary showcase or hang out with Shawols, I’m not sure yet.

So, that’s my Top 5 Most Played Songs & Artists on Spotify in 2015. There’s so much great music been released this year and I really cannot wait to hear more in 2016. Ariana Grande is releasing her new album in January so that’s really exciting.
