A DAY FILLED WITH SURPRISES FOR THE BIRTHDAY GIRL

It was my best friend, Crah’s birthday on December 20th and since she is such a special person in my life, I’ve decided to make the day extra special for her. That morning, we have planned to go see the sunrise at the beach and we’ve all set our alarms at 4AM, except for yours truly. I totally forgot to set my alarm so I slept through the night. When I woke up, everyone else overslept as well so that was a major fail.

Thankfully, we had a Plan B so we headed out for breakfast at Mee Kolok Haji Salleh. I don’t typically like Mee Kolok because it’s so heavy on the MSG that sometimes, it makes me feel really sick. However, I haven’t had a bowl of Mee Kolok at Haji Salleh’s since I was 11 or 12 years old so I thought I should give it a go for Crah’s sake. It was really good and reminds me of the reason I used to love Mee Kolok when I was little.

At 4PM, Jo and I decided to take her on a spontaneous trip to the beach without her knowing. So, the both of us arrived at her house to take her out and we all went on a mini road trip there. We didn’t blindfold her or anything because we knew it would agitate her and it was too much work. We wanted everything to be very chill and casual. We had such a nice and peaceful time, we sat at the beach for an hour before we had to head back to town for another surprise.

I’ve been planning this one for days but it didn’t turn out as planned. I wasn’t focused on making it too perfect so I wasn’t too stressed out about that. Regardless, I think it still worked out quite well and I loved seeing the look on her face. I asked her to go out for dinner with me and at first, she had actually suspected that we were planning something for her but she didn’t know who would be there and where. I arrived first with a birthday cake and special guests. The plan was for everyone to come really early and wait until she comes in and becomes completely surprised that everyone was there to celebrate her birthday but everyone was running late and she actually came earlier than everyone else. It was still so nice to see the look on her face when she came in and see a long stretch of tables for us to sit at. She sat with her back facing the entrance so it was still a surprise for her to see who came out to celebrate her birthday.

I don’t usually do things like this for people but sometimes, it’s nice to make another person feel special. Crah is one of the closest people to me and she always tries to make me happy so I wanted to make her happy for a day.

Talk again soon,
Hani Lutfi
