Last year, I’ve reviewed the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion (which you can’t read anymore because my blog got deleted and the post got deleted with it) and said that I would continue with my Clean & Clear Active Clear Speed Clearing Acne Gel as soon as it finishes because I don’t think it’s so amazing that I would spend close to RM100 every few months to repurchase it. And that’s what I did. I stopped using the Mario Badescu and continued with my Clean & Clear.
The few months after my Drying Lotion was completely dry and used up were horrible. I had so much acne and they took so long to dry and recover. That’s when I thought to myself, this has to be because I’m not using the Drying Lotion anymore. So, I repurchased the Drying Lotion and my acne showed improvements in a month. With that said, I thought I should give you some of the pros and cons of the two products so that you can decide whether to get the Drying Lotion, especially if you’re having trouble with acne or you’re trying to make the decision to get the Drying Lotion.
THE DRYING LOTION
If you don’t know what the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is, it is a spot treatment that you use overnight, when you’re sleeping. It’s a pink solution where the pink stuff settles at the bottom of the bottle and you’ll see a clear solution at the top. It has Isopropyl Alcohol, Calamine, Camphor, Sulfur, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Talc, Glycerin and Salicylic Acid. There are ingredients in this which can cause flare ups, especially for sensitive skin like Talc and Alcohol. I have mild sensitive skin along with oily and acne-prone skin but my skin doesn’t react badly to it. However, if you have really bad sensitive skin or you just have sensitive skin in general, you might want to ask your doctor about this or give it some more thought at least.
It doesn’t sting on any of my acne, except on cuts. So if I have an open acne or my acne just popped after washing or scrubbing my face, it would sting but only for a few seconds. I think this does a great job at getting rid of acne, sometimes you don’t actually notice any of the acne going away. Obviously, on more stubborn acne or cystic acne, it takes more time to get rid of with this solution. It would take around 3-4 days (I think, don’t quote me on that) to dry those stubborn pimples up then extract/pop them yourselves.
The cons of this product are of course, it has talc and alcohol, it stings and it’s expensive, for a spot treatment. It’s RM97 on Luxola and RM150 (maximum, I don’t remember the exact number) at Sephora.
THE CLEAN & CLEAR GEL
With the Clean & Clear gel, it’s your basic acne spot treatment gel. It’s clear, it’s thick, it’s cute and it’s affordable. RM10 a pack, you wouldn’t be thinking twice about how this would affect your budget. This product also has salicylic acid in it but it has more ingredients in them. With more ingredients, there’s more damage. There are alcohol and fragrance in this, so again, if you have sensitive skin, try to stay away from this. I know it seems like girls with sensitive skin have less fun or less trouble finding the perfect products but don’t worry about it. If you have more sensitive skin, it’s always better to opt for products with less ingredients and more organic substances like Lush products. It’s always better to use organic products in general but for sensitive skin in particular, it’s very very important to watch out for those ingredients.
Like I’ve said, this acne gel is your basic acne gel. It takes a longer time to get rid of your acne, it doesn’t give you much results and it doesn’t have a wow factor. Again, very basic. If you have more pimples like I do (I have them everywhere), it would be very difficult to use this as a spot treatment because it’s a gel and a more runny consistency than the Drying Lotion. Also, it would run out faster if you have more spots. If you have less spots, this one would be perfect.
As you can see, I have very little to say about this product because it gives me very little results. There’s nothing much to it.
This is what I do; I use the Clean & Clear gel to mix with my moisturiser as an all-around acne treatment, sort of as a prevention. I’m not sure if it works well as a prevention but I use it anyway, just as an extra step to treat those clogged up pores. With the Mario Badescu, I use it as a spot treatment every night.
The reason why I like the Mario Badescu more is because you can actually see how much your skin is improving. When you put the Drying Lotion on your spots, you’ll have white spots all over and with that, you can actually see how much white spots you have on your face every night so you can see how more or less white spots you have. With that, you can see whether you have more or less acne every day.
If you think the Mario Badescu would help your skin, go for it. I totally recommend it. But you definitely don’t need it.
