This afternoon, my friends and I decided to make our way to the new patisserie at The Spring, to catch up on what’s hot and what’s not. I’ve been eyeing this cafe for so long, even when it was still under construction. I also just got my dSLR fixed so I was so excited to take nice photos!
The interior design had a nice monochrome theme with beautiful marble tiles, high stools, black and white chairs, glass walls (reminds me of Rimba Rusa KL) to give the place great lighting (nice for Instagram enthusiast and bloggers) and lots and lots of plants, which gives it a green house feel. The kitchen is closed in glass walls so you can see what’s going on behind the scenes. It feels very modern and chic, very Parisian I must say.
This place was so nice, we spent so long sitting there and trying to get a good flatlay for Instagram! I saw a couple of girls bringing along their own cameras as well so I wonder if they’re bloggers, too!
They had an open counter filled with pastries, which you can come and choose what you want, pay at the cashier and make your way to your table while they deliver your lovely delights to you. Utensils are self-service where you take what you need, forks, spoons, knives, little plates and some lemon water to keep you hydrated. A spread of magazines are made available to keep yourselves occupied or a nice addition to your flatlay.
Drinks are the usual macchiato, mocha and cappuccino with a selection of tea and juices to choose from. With the drinks, you get a complimentary madeleine per drink which I would say, is just the French version of bahulu.
The pastries are wonderful, very cute and lovely. The danishes and croissants are well-made, very crispy and would go well with your cup of coffee if it was reheated to order. The biggest attraction are the little cakes of course. At the counter, you have a nice array of little desserts which you can order a full size of prior to your event.
We had the Chocolate Chip danish, Cornmeal Walnut danish, the Fruit tart, Lemon tart and Ivory Raspberry cake. Everything was very pleasant, very delicate and light in the mouth. The fruit tart has a good amount of strawberries and blueberries on top and the crust was nicely seasoned.
The lemon tart had a lemon curd centre, topped with half a macaron. The lemon was a bit too tart (see what I did there) for me but if you like citrus, this would be the one for you.
My favourite is of course, the raspberry. Let me be honest and say that the only reason I ordered this one is because it’s pink! It’s pink and pretty, it reminded me of Legally Blonde! It’s a load of cream and when you cut it open, you have a layer of cake, buttercream and a nice raspberry jam inside. Again, very light and delicate. It was so good, melted in the mouth really nicely and everything just felt, I don’t know what adjective I should use next because all I can think of is nice and light. It was very breezy, nothing is too sweet or too salty or too bitter, everything was nicely made.
The meal ended up being around RM74 for 5 desserts and 3 drinks.
I like the place a lot but I would be much more of a fan if they had more savoury treats like a sausage roll or a chicken pie, maybe a nice brunch menu. I really wanted like, a nice tuna croissant sandwich or a simple English breakfast. They actually had some savoury loaves of bread like a tomato foccacia but they had nothing to dip the foccacia into so I had to pass on it. There was something missing.
I won’t deny that it’s a nice place, though. I can actually imagine myself going on a date with a boy at the mall and stopping by this cafe after a movie or a shop.
