When I was in Seoul, I decided to put more effort into making myself up and looking pretty to fit into the well-dressed society. The make-up routine I did for 10 days in Seoul eventually stuck with me and I haven’t been doing anything differently since. Before, I would usually slap on foundation, powder and lipstick then I would be good to go but now, my make-up routine is slightly more extensive and I’ve been having good make-up days for the past month.
The one thing that I realised about make-up is how much a colour can make all the difference. I used to avoid putting on colour on my face because I was worried it would make me look like a drag queen, I’ve always felt like I look like a boy so I didn’t want to look like a man with make-up on. Now, I finally realised that it’s all about finding the right colour and putting on the right amount.
1. TARTE AMAZONIAN CLAY FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION
I used to use the NARS All-day Luminous Weightless Skin Foundation but when I ran out of it, I decided to try something new. My skin has been doing a lot better lately so I decided to try out this highly raved Tarte foundation. The NARS foundation is an amazing foundation but for everyday wear, I found that it didn’t really last through the heat and oils that my face would put it through throughout the day. It’s a great foundation for special occasions but again, not for everyday wear.
I have mixed feelings about this foundation. I think I’ve been spoiled with the quality of NARS foundations that it’s difficult to impress me. This foundation is pretty average in my opinion. It has light to medium coverage, it evens out my skintone really well, it blends beautiful with fingers and a brush and it lasts throughout the day. Some would say this has medium to high coverage since it is quite buildable but for me, this is pretty light coverage.
2. NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER
When it comes to make-up or at least base make-up, I really like to go for the best key make-up items instead of trying out different ones at a time. I don’t want to hoard on products so when I was searching for a concealer, I went for one that has all the positive reviews. This is the only concealer I’ve ever tried so I can’t say anything about it because I have nothing to compare it with. I have heard that the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer and the Maybelline Age Rewind are just as good but the Urban Decay one is more easily accessible, of course.
3. CATRICE ALL MATT PLUS SHINE CONTROL POWDER
I’ve been using the Revlon loose powder for the longest time so I decided to try this Catrice one since I’ve heard so much about the brand. Catrice is a super affordable UK brand that you can find at Guardian. The price point is around RM20 on average. This powder costs around RM18-RM20 if I’m not mistaken and I think it’s pretty good. It keeps my oils at bay and makes my make-up look flawless.
4. MAC LIMITED EDITION HIGH DEFINITION BLUSH IN SEA ME HEAR ME
I feel really guilty for introducing this to you but it is gorgeous. I tried editing this photo to make it look exactly like it looks like in real life but I failed miserably. To give you a better idea, the blush is a nice mauve colour that suits my dark skintone very well. You can no longer find this at MAC but I’m pretty sure they have a mauve blush for you. I like that this blush has some iridescence to it so it gives a hint of glow to my cheeks.
5. TONY MOLY EYE MATTE EYESHADOW IN M06
I forgot to take a close-up of this product but you can find it in a Tony Moly haul post I did a couple of months back. It’s your average matte neutral shade for everyday wear. Nothing special.
6. EYEKO BLACK MAGIC MAGICURL MASCARA
After eyeshadow, I go in with an eyelash curler and mascara. This isn’t the best mascara I’ve tried. The only reason I got this was I heard it isn’t waterproof and it won’t run down your face when you get water onto your made-up face. It’s pretty basic, to be honest. If you want a full-on mascara, get a Maybelline one.
7. SILKYGIRL MATTE JUNKIE LIP CREAM IN 01 RETRO
I’ve used the NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Buttery Nude for the longest time, it’s my perfect MLBB shade so I’ve been looking for the perfect matte version of it. I couldn’t find a similar shade among the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream collection but little did I know, I would find one at the Silkygirl section at Guardian. I’ve heard many good things about the Matte Junkie Lip Cream and I wanted one in the shade 04 but they were sold out. Instead, I got this one in 01 then lo and behold, it’s the exact match to my NYX Xtreme Lip Cream. It’s a bit drying and can get a bit streaky so I would advise you to put on lipbalm before putting it on. It’s not as opaque as I would like it to be but you can layer it on and it wouldn’t look cakey or patchy on your lips.
