THE NEW BURGER JOINT IN TOWN // CANARD RESTAURANT KUCHING

For the past week, I’ve been seeing enticing photos of a new burger joint in town. The presentation reminded me of In N Out, which definitely intrigued me and the burgers were mouth-watering. Since I always love myself a good gourmet burger, I decided to check the place out.

This new burger joint is called Canard Restaurant and serves burgers and salads. Upon entering the restaurant, you will be greeted by a clean and minimal layout with white walls and blue ceilings. It’s very bright and nicely lit when the sun is out, perfect for selfies and flatlays. It’s an open kitchen so you’ll see a grill and a fryer with a salad/topping bar. Something you would usually see at sandwich shops like Subway. Orders and payments are made at the counter and your burger/salad of choice will be served at your table.

It hasn’t been long since its soft opening so it’s pretty understandable that the menu is quite short and simple. We have five burgers and four salads to choose from, prices range from RM9-RM24. If you’re not feeling the five burgers they have for you to choose from, you can customize your own or add more toppings! All menu items are a la carte but you can make it a set by adding RM3! In a set, you’ll get a drink and fries.

I ordered the Nollie Heel (RM16.90) with an additional topping of mozzarella cheese (RM2) and I made it a set so my total was RM21.90! Not too bad for the burger that was served to me. The Nollie Heel is essentially a homemade beef patty, a slice of chicken ham, beef bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, a slice of cheddar cheese, pickles and mustard, sandwiched in a bun! Everything I love in a burger! It seemed very aesthetically pleasing in its blue plastic container, very In N Out inspired. It was quite big for a normal bite, which is good so I know it’s not a tiny burger (remember the Notorious BIG I had at Plan B?). The patty was nice and juicy, I loved the melted cheese and yes, very satisfying!

The only downside to this burger set was that there weren’t a lot of the fries AND they were criss cross fries. No offence to any criss cross fries fans out there but I’m a straight-cut or crinkle-cut kinda gal. However, the criss cross fries were light and crispy, which I can appreciate. Most criss cross fries are really soggy so these were nice!

It wasn’t exactly a mind-blowing experience because I know what to expect from a gourmet burger but it’s definitely nice to have a new burger joint in town. Would I recommend this place? Most definitely! I don’t have anything bad to say about it except for the fries thing but everything else was very satisfying. I know what I like in a burger and it was served to me very well. I’ll be sure to visit more frequently and try out one of the salads and the Hardflip! I have a strong feeling that the Hardflip is gonna be a really good burger.
