When I was a kid, my Dad got me glasses because the optometrist said I was short-sighted. He even got me one of those strings to put on your glasses so I didn’t lose them. Yeah, the ones Phua Chu Kang’s mom wears. I never thought glasses were cool, especially at a single digit age where all I wanted was to look like Lizzie Mcguire. When I was around 15 years old, I couldn’t see the whiteboard so I went to the optometrist again and she said I have astigmatism. So, I got another pair of glasses. A few months later, I stopped wearing them because I thought I could see just fine without it.
Now, at the age of 21, I am 100% sure that I need glasses because I can’t see clearly. I think it’s astigmatism instead of short/long-sightedness. I just can’t see things very clearly when it’s really bright. It’s really not that bad because I can still read and decipher things but now that I’m working on the computer 8 hours a day, watching something on it at home and looking at my phone almost 24/7, I think it’s only going to get worse. It’s also getting really dangerous for me to drive because my eyes would sometimes water when it’s too bright out and I wouldn’t be able to see that well.
So, glasses it is.
I’ve been meaning to get glasses for about a month and I’ve been looking at glasses for about a week but I can’t seem to find any that I like at a price that I’m willing to pay. The frames that I like are all so expensive (like RM250-RM400) and the ones that are affordable are so ugly, I would hate to see myself in them. While I was looking at the ZALORA Anniversary sale last week, I saw nice glasses from Medium Rare. I’ve always known the existence of the brand, I’ve seen them on Fashion Valet. I saw Vivy Yusof introduce the brand on her Instastories too so I’ve seen them around. I didn’t like the glasses I saw on ZALORA so I went over to Fashion Valet instead. They actually had a decent amount of designs available and they’re all really hip and affordable.
I like my frames round and oval. Not a complete circle like Harry Potter style and I definitely don’t want rectangular ones. I wanted a classy nude color, or black with thin frames, or transparent with thick frames. They had all of those three and were decently priced so all I had to do was choose one.
I finally decided on the dark colored one with thin and oval frames. They’re called the Kala Glasses in Olive Green and were only RM129! So much cheaper than the ones I’ve seen at physical stores! They even had transparent ones but I thought I would look better wearing the olive green. Now, all I have to do is get prescription lenses done.
I also really like these ones I saw on their website.
They have a lot of nice sunglasses too, I already have these two on my wishlist. I’m utterly impressed, I don’t know why I’ve never properly checked them out before but I’m glad that I’m finally aware of this brand. Super affordable with really good designs, I love it!
I actually really love sunglasses, I really hope I don’t start collecting sunglasses and glasses thanks to this brand.
